Assistant Director of Strategic Communications
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Serve as the primary communications contact for the nationally-ranked men's soccer, men's gymnastics and women's lacrosse programs.
- Facilitate social media for team accounts in line with department goals.
- Produce yearbooks, news releases and feature stories.
- Staff home events, and selected away events.
- Supervise student assistants, statistical crews, and other support personnel at events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Education and Experience
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a related field plus work-related experience in communications or public relations is preferred.
Skills and Qualifications of this position include:
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance is required.
- Considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
- Experience supervising staff members and/or leadership experience within a communications department, preferably in a higher education and/or an athletically related environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, website content management systems, social media platforms, and Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats is preferred.
This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
